Three Pools to Stay Cool

Whether you come out for open swim, join the swim team or take a swim lesson, Peoria’s three pools are a great way to enjoy the outdoors this summer. Swim lessons create a lifetime of water safety and enjoyment. For just $25 for residents, children can take a two-week swim lesson at the level appropriate to their skills. Free Library Activities

Libraries are a great place to spend a hot summer day! Head over to Peoria Main Library located at 8463 W Monroe St or Sunrise Mountain Library located at 21109 N 98th Ave for a day of fun the whole family can enjoy! Both libraries offer free activities all summer long for kids, teens, and adults. Activities include events like story times, various kinds of crafts, different clubs for everyone’s interests, and game nights. The best part is these events are indoors and free! While you are there the whole family can sign up for the summer reading program where you can receive prizes for all of the books you read. Enjoy Outdoor Recreation at Lake Pleasant

Cool down at beautiful Lake Pleasant with water recreation rentals like kayaks, speedboats, jet skis, houseboats and even a water powered jet pack. Take a break from the fun at Dillon’s restaurant on the lake for a great lunch with a beautiful view. Camping sites are also available to enjoy the beautiful summer nights and breathtaking Milky Way views away from the city lights.

Stay Active Indoors

There are plenty of indoor activities to stay cool during the summer months. Play indoor sand volleyball in a beautiful air-conditioned facility at the Beach House located at 6681 N. 84th Ave #130.  Visit Rio Vista Recreation center for a basketball, volleyball, racquetball and a full gym located at 8866 W. Thunderbird Rd. For professional climbers and beginners alike, Ape Index rock climbing gym is great place to get a workout and have a good time. Located at 9700 N. 91st Ave. Bounce around the room at one of Peoria’s many indoor play places including Skyzone trampoline park located at 9040 W Larkspur Dr. Ste 134.

Safely Enjoy the Outdoors

Don’t forget to enjoy the summer weather safely. Spend some time becoming acclimated to the hot temperatures. Make sure to pre-hydrate and drink plenty of water throughout the day. If you are hiking, start early and end early and bring enough water. Bring a charged cell phone and let others know where you are hiking. Take frequent breaks from the heat and now the signs and symptoms of heat related illness.
