The Peoria Main Library has undergone some exciting upgrades to freshen up the building and make every trip to the library as smooth and accessible as possible.

The building upgrades include new tiles and carpeting, an expanded lobby with a skylight and an improved entryway. The stairway now features a glass panel that adds visibility.

Additionally, the service desks now have computer stations, to make checking out items seamless for library patrons. Patrons can scan their library card, item of choice, print a receipt and then the process is complete. Additionally, books can be returned through an automated materials handler.

A big focus for the library is Peoria youth, with hopes of encouraging kids and teens to take part in their local library. A podcast studio has been added, as well as individual quiet spaces for students to study. The space has new furniture with strategically designed carpet to lend to the garden feel for flowing into the courtyard. The courtyard has a prickly pear gate, a garden, sensory panels and artificial turf.

In addition to all of the upgrades, the library offers great services to the public. Pick up a Culture Pass, or check out a laptop or an Explore to Go Kit. The Culture Passes are passes to museums and other local attractions. The Culture Passes usually include admission for two people to attractions like the Phoenix Art Museum, the Desert Botanical Garden and The Heard Museum.

If you are looking for an activity to keep your kids busy during a hot summer day, pick up an Explore to Go Kit. The kits feature outdoor activities or indoor learning activities. Some outdoor kits include croquet, yoga and hiking sets. The learning kits include shapes, colors and math game kits. The kits can be checked out for up to seven days and are free of charge. Additionally, the libraries offer the Laptop Lending Program where residents can check out a Chromebook with a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 21 days.

During a visit to the main library, patrons can check out the Reading Rhino sculpture, which is a new art sculpture installed through INFLUX, an organization that provides opportunities for Arizona artists to create site-specific art installations in a wide variety of locations. INFLUX utilizes a holistic approach to temporary public art projects through a showcase of Arizona artists presented with the context of viewing the Valley as one community. Artist Doug Boyd created the blue Reading Rhino and it is a fantastic addition to the library.

With the unique building upgrades, a variety of free services, public art and a new outdoor space, the Peoria Main Library is here to serve Peoria families. For more information, visit www.peoriaaz.gov/library.
