There is no doubt this holiday season will look different from prior years. However, that does not mean it cannot be full of new memories and traditions. This year, there are events within the City of Peoria that will keep your family safe and ensure a good time. Additionally, Peoria has exceptional local shops that are full of great décor for your home, which will make decorating your space so enjoyable. Check out our list and plan one, or multiple, events with your family this holiday season.
Old Town Holiday Lights
Head over to Old Town Peoria to grab a hot chocolate and walk through the light display. Rows of twinkling lights will be set up for you and your loved ones to enjoy. The Christmas tree will also be on display, which is the perfect opportunity for photos.
Christmas Caroling Contest
If Christmas caroling is a holiday activity your family enjoys, make it COVID safe by taking it virtual this year. Park West is hosting an online caroling battle. Gather up the family and record your group singing holiday Christmas carols. Post the video on Instagram or Facebook and tag @ShopParkWest for a chance to win a $100 gift card to the Park West store or restaurant of your choice.
Socially Distanced Photos
If your kids really want to take a picture with Santa this year, Park West is offering two free opportunities to take safe holiday photos. Both events take place outside Bath and Body Works and feature character photo opportunities. On Saturday, December 5, guests can take a picture with Santa and on Saturday, December 12, photos can be taken with the Grinch. Photos are taken outdoors in front of a backdrop. Santa and the Grinch will be in a chair and there will be stand here markers in front of them. No one will be able to sit on or touch Santa or the Grinch. Masks are required in line and there will be hand sanitizer available. For more information, visit www.shopparkwest.com.
Run Run Rudolph Foot Race
Does your family like to take part in holiday races? If so, Rio Vista Community Park is hosting the Run Run Rudolph event. On Sunday, December 6, participants can take place in a half marathon, quarter marathon, 5k or Reindeer Dash. The event is limited to 600 participants and has strict COVID19 policies in place to ensure safety. Runners will run along the beautiful New River Trail System and will receive a medal at the finish line. For those who don’t feel ready for an in person race, there is a virtual option available.
